[Notice of closure of parking area at Shiretoko Pass] Bears have been frequently spotted near the top of Shiretoko Pass on National Route 334 in Shari Town, Hokkaido. As a result, from 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 22nd, the parking area at the top of the pass will be restricted (no entry) for the time being.

[Watch out for injured brown bears] At around 6:50 AM on August 26th, a brown bear ran out onto the roadway and collided with a car on Route 334 near the Nukamapp River in the Hinode district of Shari Town. The bear fled the scene, but it may be injured and aggressive, so please be careful when driving in the area.
