Regarding the brown bear accident on the Mt. Rausu hiking trail (which occurred on August 14, 2025), the Shiretoko Brown Bear Countermeasures Liaison Committee held a press conference at 3:00 p.m. on September 11, 2025, and the public materials have been posted on the Shiretoko Nature Foundation website.

[Notice of reopening of parking area at Shiretoko Pass] The parking area at the top of Shiretoko Pass, which had been closed due to the sighting of a brown bear, has reopened from 9:00 on Friday, September 5th. The surrounding area is a brown bear habitat, so please be careful when driving.

[Watch out for injured brown bears] At around 6:50 AM on August 26th, a brown bear ran out onto the roadway and collided with a car on Route 334 near the Nukamapp River in the Hinode district of Shari Town. The bear fled the scene, but it may be injured and aggressive, so please be careful when driving in the area.
